The Tohoku Earthquake, the biggest in recorded history rocked Japan on 11th March 2011. The massive tsunami that inundated much of the nearby Sendai coastal region was responsible for more than 10,000 fatalities.

The concerts have helped all of us to remember the Japanese people and bring peoples of different cultures a little closer together on the planet we share.  This was beautifully shown in Bella Gaia.  Please leave your message by using the comments button below.  We have asked Kenji for help to take these messages to Japan and will be forging connections with schools and community groups there.

The tsunami was the cause of Japan's nuclear crisis, but there is also a connection to Carbon Literacy.  Whilst a simple anti-nuclear stance is now easier to justify, we advocate that a more complete understanding of the impacts on climate change, air quality and human health and welfare is necessary for the debate about nuclear power and the traditional coal-fired alternative.  The mining of coal is a dangerous activity that costs many lives and the resulting smog affects the lives and health of millions of people in souther China.
