This carbon trading game is an interesting and proactive way for students in SOC334 Science, Technology and Society to learn about carbon credits and carbon taxation and have a deeper understanding of the relationship among sustainability, technological development, climate change, and international relations.
During the game, students are separated into six teams, representing six different countries. The aim is to accomplish tasks and win out, and demands negotiation skills, strategic skills and creativity as students work as a team.
Some students reflected that the game taught them as important as technological development and global economy are, climate change and sustainability should be the responsibility of every person and every country in the world. Learning through game, as a kind of practical learning, can not only provide an independent yet collaborative learning opportunity for university students, but also foster a very interactive and immersive type of learning among adult learners. Thank you Teng Hoi for bringing this new game to this course!
