Return to UST: block 7

ust_16sept1Another group of around 30 UST students gathered to play the Carbon Trading Game in one of the halls of residence in the early evening.  The game got off to a hesitant start, with the USA driving hard bargains on one side of the world and the UK jealously guarding its possessions at the other.  Cambodia, seemingly left out in the cold adopted a waiting strategy, whilst pressing ahead with persuasive diplomatic efforts.  Over time, these efforts paid off and Cambodia was able to seriously ramp up its income.

ust_16sept2Ghana, also struggling with a lack of resources were more successful earlier in the game but sadly misjudged the situation towards the end.  Once the opportunity arose to corner the market, Cambodia leapt in decisively and was able to effectively control production and storm into the lead.  The game was not without rancour as the World Bank came in for much criticism, which even spilled over to the UN on a couple of occasions.  Calvin and Trudi held their line however and Bruce worked tirelessly to give credit where credit was due.

Thanks to Calvin Lee Kwan, Bruce Stephens and Trudi Charlesworth and well done for keeping your hair on at the end when it became frantic.
