Year 6 Cap and Trade at CIS

E-mail Print PDF
cis_cnt_12-5-10sm The four Year 6 classes recently started a new unit of work on energy, and so Jane Harris invited us to run the Cap and Trade game for the students to help develop awareness of energy and climate change

A number of interesting issues came up, one of which was the low level of awareness of the need for maintenance of equipment (such as air conditioners).  The students got stuck in anyway and grappled with the human behaviour factors that emerge from the game and they did well with their background knowledge.  The next task for the students will be to design their own intelligent systems using Ed Blocks (functional electronic building blocks) that can for example automatically turn off lights when the room is empty.

Thanks to Jane Harris, and the year 6 teachers and a big thanks to Alice Jones for helping to develop some detailed feedback and discussion points for the classes.
