Dr Debby Cotton, a specialist in environmental education from the University of Plymouth, UK spent an unseasonably cold week in Hong Kong to initiate a study into the effectiveness of game playing in aiding education about environmental and sustainability issues.

Debby observed the Cap and Trade game being played in St Clare’s Girls’ School and Renaissance College Hong Kong and was thus able to better understand the differences between local and international school systems.  If the noise level indicated success, then both games worked out very well, although we think other classes may have been wondering what was going on… rchk_18-11-09sm
Debby also met with Cecilia Chan of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the British Consulate.  Cecilia organizes the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) programme in Hong Kong.  Another meeting was held with Mr Rochester Wong of the Education Bureau to discuss the game playing, the Cap and Trade programme and developing education resources about carbon trading.

Thanks to Cecilia Chan at the FCO for all her hard work in helping to support Debby’s trip.
