Liberal Studies is a new subject in Hong Kong schools and requires a different approach to teaching than traditional subjects. If you are in a local school we can help to deliver an Other Learning Activity that links with Liberal Studies and many other subjects. If you are in an international school, then our educational activities are likely to fit comfortably within your curriculum.
Few topics lend themselves better to a multi-faceted approach than Climate Change. Rather than focusing on Climate Change from one of the traditional disciplines, Teng Hoi Conservation Organization has successfully incorporated the key issues into a stimulating group simulation game that enables experiential learning. The game incorporates aspects of geo-politics, economics, business, ethics, science and public policy and introduces sustainability and carbon trading in a dynamic manner. Each game plays out in a unique manner, but always exposing the major issues we see associated with climate change.
For over a year, the Carbon Trading Game has been trialed in international schools and universities in Hong Kong as well as overseas. Now it has being used as a corporate training tool and has been successfully run in Cantonese and Putonghua.
A group of graduates of United World Colleges (UWCs) including Li Po Chun United World College has volunteered to help run the Carbon Trading Game in local schools. The game is an excellent resource for Liberal Studies, and includes material relevant to Moral and Civic Education. It’s an ideal vehicle for an Other Learning Experience within the New Secondary School curriculum of Hong Kong.
The game requires a group size of a around 30 and at least 2 hours. The cost of the game have been met by sponsors, however on provision of a Carbon Trading Game for your school we do request the following support:
1. Photos and materials will be posted onto this website
2. Sponsors’ logos and products be displayed at the game
3. Your school introduces the Carbon Trading Game to at least one other school.
